Community Work

Since 2016 I have been involved as a volunteer in a global Brazilian Samba Reggae movement called “Batala”, bringing candomble-inspired Brazilian percussion and Bahian carnival performance to the streets of the UK and advocating for its human centred values. Batala has nearly 50 bands globally, all united by the knowledge of the same culture, rhythms and choreo. In 2023 I co-founded a Manchester UK branch of Batala. I have been working as creative director primarily, in charge of image and brand assets. We now have over 40 players and regularly perform locally and around the world. Batala "Mundo" or "world" were the winners of Notting Hill Carnival Parade in 2023.
